The history of Cornish Orchards is an interesting one which you can check out in a previous post and I quite enjoyed the Dry variant on that occasion so I was looking forward to this Gold offering.
The company uses only freshly pressed apples from Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and this one – the Gold – is a mix of traditional bittersweet apples with dessert apples, just like the Dry.

TASTING NOTES, AFTER A FASHION:
The liquid is a bright, amber gold, as the name suggests, and good and lively. It’s also crystal clear.
On the nose it’s reasonably uncomplicated with sweet apples and a pleasant yeasty mustiness that I always take as a good sign.
Despite the sweetness of the aroma it’s the sharp and tannin-heavy elements that land first before settling down into some nice fruity apple with a bit of space for the sweetness to develop, all the while balanced by good, steady acidity. The grippy tannins deliver a long and pronounced dry finish. It’s a tiny bit light on depth and body for my taste, as was the Dry, but it still went down a treat.
It’s a lovely, approachable, refreshing cider that’s well made and easy to drink.
